How it works

Every contraction begins
as an electrical signal.

Before a muscle shortens, your nervous system sends it a command — a measurable electrical event that precedes the movement you can see. Kasphyn reads it through the skin using surface electromyography, the same method used in sports-science labs.

Read

Two gel electrodes on the muscle belly, 20 mm apart, aligned to the fibre direction — the SENIAM standard for surface EMG. Placement is what decides what you're actually measuring.

Process

A 24-bit medical-grade front end amplifies a microvolt signal while rejecting the electrical interference in every gym. Sampled a thousand times a second.

Normalise

Raw microvolts aren't comparable — they shift with skin, position, and the day. One maximum contraction sets your reference, so every reading is a percentage of your own maximum.

a verdict on itself.

A measurement is only as good as the contact behind it. Skin moves, sweat accumulates, electrodes shift. Kasphyn monitors its own electrode contact continuously, in hardware, and reports one of three states at all times.

How hard the muscle worked.

Peak and average activation for every set, as a percentage of your own maximum — the muscle's own signal, not an estimate from motion or heart rate.

Whether it worked evenly.

Activation across every rep. A set whose last reps fade looks nothing like one that holds — and they aren't the same set, however the log reads.

When it started to fade.

Activation drops in the target muscle before form visibly breaks, as other muscles take over. You see the moment it happens, not the aftermath.

Whether you're improving.

Same weight, more activation means better recruitment. Same activation at a heavier load means real progress — the comparison that never existed outside a lab.
